Dealing With The Problem Of Toddler Snoring
Snoring is a common problem but most of us are not used to hearing about it being a problem in children. If you
are one of the many parents who have a child with a snoring problem, you will want to act right away. It can cause
them problems with getting or staying asleep at night and this can create larger life problems because they are so
tired through the day. At least it is a relief to know that there are different treatment options available for a
toddler snoring problem.
The first step is getting them in to see the doctor. Doctors fear that sleep apnea is the cause of snoring in
children this young and will want to test for that right away. They want to make sure at least if sleep apnea is
the problem that this is treated first and foremost for the child’s safety. This condition that causes a child to
stop breathing several times throughout a sleeping period and can be harmful, never mind frightening to you the
parent and the child if they notice.
Setting up a better sleeping schedule for your child is one of the best things you can do to try and deal with
their snoring. Children who sleep at random times of the day or night can suffer from an array of different health
problems and that includes snoring for one. There are different things you can introduce into their nighttime
routine if you have not already, to help your child understand when they are going to bed and help them get to
sleep easier at night. Giving them a bath or reading them a book before putting them to bed every night can help
more than you may imagine.
Your doctor may also suggest your child use a dental appliance to help with their snoring problem. This is just
like a regular mouth guard pretty much, only it is used to keep the child’s tongue down while they are sleeping. An
unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity can also result in a toddler snoring problem. You may have to
try a few different things before you find something that actually solves your toddler’s snoring problem.
